Maintaining Clean Tools Ensures High Biosecurity

I always the end the week by cleaning and maintaining my tools. It’s a simple thing that’s has a massive impact in the garden. I say this because I travel from garden to garden – if it’s your own tools in your own garden, best practice is to clean them after use, but it’s not as important if travelling.

Why? Biosecurity!

Biosecurity? What is that? I hear you ask – in simple terms, it means that the movement of pest and pathogens are negated, by not allowing them to spread.

Sometimes, we don’t always know what pests or pathogens could be present within the garden. The last thing we would want to do it to transfer it to other gardens.

Simply by cleaning your tools, with antibacterial wipes or spray will help this. Every now and then, a deep clean is required.

I did this one my trusty strimmer this afternoon. I gave it a deep clean. I do clean it every time i use it, but it doesn’t always get rid of most of the debris. Wet grass causes mould and heavy use of strimmer will have wet grass stick to it like “dip on a chip” so a good clean is vital to stop mould / fungus from spreading.

Clean tools – means less spread of pest of pathogens!
